The sin of women’s suffrage
Women’s suffrage was hoisted on the unsuspecting public a little over a hundred years ago. Lacking a firm foundation as to the truth of God’s Word and unable to foresee the dangers that lay ahead, the gullible public were easy swayed by what was promoted as right and fair.
When women were given the right to vote, a full-fledged war against manhood, womanhood, marriage, and family was ushered in leading to the destruction of our homes, churches, and society.
“So it is no small matter that we keep in our places …The suffrage question is, I believe, of far more importance than most people think. No doubt it will be a turning point in the history of our country. …”~ May Selley
“The true militant suffragette is an epitome of the determination of women to possess their own souls” – Emily Davison.
Did Suffrage please God?
Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you. ~Deuteronomy 4: 2
We are commanded not to add to or take from God’s Holy Word but feminism and women’s suffrage did just that. The movement encouraged women to stand against the leadership of their husbands and to vote independently of them. This was a direct attack at the leadership of husbands in the family and men in society. Since God appointed men to lead in the home, church, and society, suffrage was also a direct attack on Scripture.
“Men make the moral code and they expect women to accept it. They have decided that it is entirely right and proper for men to fight for their liberties and their rights, but that it is not right and proper for women to fight for theirs” – Emmeline Pankhurst (a leading British suffragette)
Sola Scriptura
We claim that we believe in Sola Scriptura but we live as if we don’t. The Lord makes it very clear that if we love Him, we will obey Him. This means no bending of His Word, no explaining it away, no adjusting it for the times, and no compromise because we don’t want to accept it as it is written. What God has said, He meant. His moral law is forever and doesn’t change. God Himself is immutable. He commands holiness. He designed the roles of men and women and His order is perfect. It is also in direct conflict with the order of this fallen world.
Vivian Gornick: “Being a housewife is an illegitimate profession. The choice to serve and to be protected and plan towards being a family maker is a choice that shouldn’t be. The heart of radical feminism is to change that.”
Suffrage and the effect on the family
Since feminism and suffrage are fruits of the same tree, the fruit of both are the same and both equally rotten.
1 Corinthians 11: 3, But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.
Linda Gordon: “The nuclear family must be destroyed… Whatever its ultimate meaning, the break-up of families now is an objec-tively revolutionary process.”
Declaration of Feminism (1971):“The end of the institution of marriage is necessary for the liberation of women; therefore it is important for us to encourage women to leave their husbands and not live individually with men.
“Parliament had drafted a women’s suffrage bill…. [Young Winston dissented] “on the grounds that it is contrary to natural law and the practice of civilized states[;] that no necessity is shown[;] that only the most undesirable class of women are eager for the right[;] that those women who discharge their duty to the state viz marrying and giving birth to children are adequately represented by their husbands[;] that those who are unmarried can only claim a vote on the ground of property, which claim on democratic principles is inadmissible…””https://winstonchurchill.hillsdale.edu/churchill-womens-suffrage-black-friday/
God’s ordained leaders
The Lord created men to lead and part of leadership is making decisions. The notion of men making decisions for their wives is foreign to most people today. Even in the church, feminism-a co-actor in the war on men and an integral part of the women’s suffrage movement–has lead to a lowering of men’s status in the family, church, and society. Attacks on marriage come from without the church (egalitarianism) and from within the church (complementarianism). It’s so commonplace that few men even notice that they’ve been disenfranchised. This feminized home, church, and society is all they’ve ever known and it’s seen as normal.
Did God really say?
The 19th amendment effectively attacked God’s creation order. Just as Satan asked Eve, “Did God really say?” feminists and suffragettes asked the same question. Each time, the question centered on the creation order.
In God’s design, men are to serve as the head of their household. Man was designed as the provider, defender, leader, guide, and head of his wife and children. He was to lead not only in the family but in society and the church. When he voted, he did so not just for himself but as the representative of his family. Women’s suffrage changed this. No longer was the man the effective head of his household. He no longer represented his family with his vote; he only represented himself. The role of husband and father now means little more than being a co-wage earner.
The effect on society
Since women are more likely to vote with their emotions than men, suffrage resulted in a liberal trend in politics that has resulted in incalculable destruction to the family. The damage to society has been astronomical. While there are many things we could point to, one stands our: The truth is that without women’s suffrage (which wouldn’t have come about without feminism), we wouldn’t have abortion on demand. In the US alone, over 60,000,000 babies have died on the altar of women’s rights.
Antonia Senior: “As ever, when an issue we thought was black and white becomes more nuanced, the answer lies in choosing the lesser evil…The nearly 200,000 aborted babies in the UK each year are the lesser evil, no matter how you define life, or death, for that matter. If you are willing to die for a cause, you must be prepared to kill for it, too.”
Feminism and suffrage
Women’s suffrage is intricately tied to feminism and feminism seeks to destroy the manhood and womanhood as defined by Scripture and the biblical family. Woman was created to be a helper to a man; feminism promotes the alpha woman and her independence from man and her superiority over him.
Genesis 2: 18, Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
“I know that women, once convinced that they are doing what is right, that their rebellion is just, will go on, no matter what the difficulties, no matter what the dangers, so long as there is a woman alive to hold up the flag of rebellion” – Emmeline Pankhurst (a leading British leader of the suffragettes)
Attack on God and His body
1 Samuel 2: 2, There is none holy like the Lord; there is none besides you; there is no rock like our God.
Carol Crist (Roman Catholic Theologian): “I found God in myself and I loved her fiercely….”
Attack on marriage
1 Peter 3: 1-6, Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. 5 For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening.
Sheila Cronam: “Since marriage constitutes slavery for women, it is clear that the women’s movement must concentrate on attacking this institution. Freedom for women cannot be won without the abolition of marriage.”
A woman’s natural God-given desire
Women were created with the desire to be protected and provided for; This was by God’s design. He created women as the weaker vessel (1 Peter 3: 7). She was created to be watched over, guided, protected, and defended. A woman’s role is one of submission both in the church and in the home–and then, as a natural outcome of this and where complementarianism (a reduction of biblical patriarchy and as such, no longer fully biblical) compromised–in society.
This desire to be protected and provided for is why women tend to vote more liberal and are often in favor of socialism. When the natural leader appointed for her either isn’t there or fails, government is called on by women to step into the role. When a woman is encouraged to pursue her dreams rather than follow God’s design, enjoy sex without marriage, have babies without limit by men who are no longer there, and she turns to the government as her provider, what need does she have for a man? The destruction of God’s creation order is then complete.
Make no mistake about it, feminists knew what they were doing when they pushed for women’s suffrage.
Biblical Patriarchy
God’s ways are not only best, they are the only ways that do not lead to destruction. Our foundations have been destroyed. Christians are more biblically illiterate than ever before, most churches have sold out to feminism, and even Christian women rebel against their God-given design (and their men encourage them to do so as does the church). Few men seem to understand the role God has called them. If we don’t recover biblically femininity, we have no hope.
Consider what we’ve lost
Women ruling is a sign of God’s judgement.
Isaiah 3: 12, My people—infants are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, your guides mislead you and they have swallowed up the course of your paths
Scripture makes it clear that when women are in a position of leadership, it is not a sign of God’s blessing, it is a sign of God’s judgment. This should terrify us as women now rule in most homes, many churches, much of society, and are endlessly pushing for more. And most men just role over, play dead, and capitulate. Too many men seem to live in perpetual fear of upsetting women and because of this, they have willingly given up their God-given roles. The Lord cannot be pleased with this.
What we’ve lost
With the advent of women’s suffrage, we lost Christ-centered and God-designed homes and a well-ordered society. Women’s suffrage has opened the pathway to women leaving their homes, ignoring their God-given responsibility to husbands and children, pursuing equality in the world with men, men being disenfranchised in the home as well as in the church and society, it being harder for men to make a living for his family, 62 million babies murdered in the womb, the sexual revolution, the gay movement (property called legalizing sodomy), the trans-movement (properly called rebelling against reality), progressivism, and now socialism. Not convinced? Who pushed for the women’s rights movement? Pushed for abortion? Who are the most liberal people in the United States? Who casts the most votes for liberals? Overwhelmingly the answer is women. And all of these things listed above and more are the result of our rebellion against God’s Holy Word.
What can be done
It’s too late to prevent women’s suffrage but it’s not too late to fight against it by standing for truth, righteousness, and holiness. When Christians reject liberalism in the home, church, and society, and once again stand firmly on God’s Holy Word, when we cry out in repentance for our sins and the sins of our churches and our nation, when we start teaching our sons and daughters the truth of God’s created order, no matter who stands against us and even if we stand alone, perhaps the Lord will be pleased to open many hearts and minds to His truth. Perhaps one day, our sons and daughters or their sons and daughters will live in a world where a biblical worldview is, once again, biblical
1 Peter 3: 7
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
1 Timothy 2:12
I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; rather, she is to remain quiet.
Colossians 3:18-19
Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.
Ephesians 5: 22-33
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. 25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Soli Deo Gloria!
Hi my friend how are you?
Let me ask you but my family likes SBC church sounds like I might be going to a church I believe is Reformed by myself because the other two like the SBC pastor and at the SBC church I was asked about twice by the pastor. I want my family to hear the truth at the church I went to what would you do? Please pray for my family.
Unless it’s any SBC church is Reformed I won’t go back to SBC church not after what he SBC convention did sinking themselves.
Dear friend, I’m sorry for the delay in getting back to you. My blog has been unresponsive and wouldn’t let me work on it at all. I hope I’m finally getting it all worked out.
I’ll certainly pray for your family. If your family won’t go with you, you can’t force them to. I’d go to where I knew that I was going to receive sound teaching and I’d talk to them about my family situation, ask for prayers, and ask for guidance. Invite your family to go with you but don’t get upset if they won’t. You have my prayers.
That’s ok my friend technology can be difficult but hey we won’t be blogging or using phone.
They don’t want to change churches like SBC because I left Calvary Chapel and SBC because they weren’t Reformed. Now there were issues at SBC and the SBC is in trouble. And they have friends at SBC church.
How have you been?
I see. I’ll be praying over this.
