Before You Listen

As with any sermon or teaching, these messages should be heard with discernment and an open Bible.

No preacher is our final authority. Even faithful men may differ in interpretation, emphasis, terminology, or application. The fact that a sermon appears on this page does not mean that I endorse everything taught by that preacher or ministry.

As you listen, I encourage you to:

  • Read 1 Corinthians 11:2–16 for yourself.
  • Consider the surrounding context carefully.
  • Look up the other passages referenced.
  • Distinguish between what Scripture actually says and what may simply be assumed.
  • Compare one teacher’s arguments with those of others.
  • Pray for wisdom, humility, and a willingness to obey whatever the Lord has revealed in His Word.

The purpose of listening to these sermons is not merely to collect opinions about head covering. It is to understand Scripture more faithfully.

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”

Hello dear sister,

The sermons, lectures, and sermon series gathered on this page concern the teaching of 1 Corinthians 11:2–16 and the Christian woman’s head covering.

I have listened to most of the sermons included here and the others have been recommended to me (and I’m working on listening through them). For various reasons, each of these sermons was worthy of inclusion. Some offer careful exposition of the passage; others address particular objections, questions, historical considerations, or the relationship between head covering, headship, worship, and the created order.

The inclusion of a sermon does not necessarily indicate agreement with every theological position held by the preacher, church, or ministry represented. Rather, I have included these resources because I believe they contain material that may be helpful to those sincerely seeking to understand what Scripture teaches.

As you listen, I encourage you to keep your Bible open. Listen carefully, consider the arguments being made, examine the passage in its context, and test everything by the Word of God. Moreover, please ask your husband to listen through these with you.

Our final authority is not tradition, modern custom, denominational practice, or the opinion of any preacher. Our question must always remain:

What has God said?

Where Should I Begin?

As you work through these messages, you may find that different preachers emphasize different portions of Paul’s argument. That can itself be useful. Compare their reasoning carefully, return repeatedly to the text, and allow Scripture to inform you.

If the subject of Christian head covering is new to you, you certainly do not need to listen to everything on this page at once. These six sermons provide several helpful starting points.

Do You Know of a Sermon I Should Consider?

If you know of a sermon or lecture on Christian head covering that you believe would be helpful to include here, I would be glad to consider it.

Please feel free to send me the title, preacher, and a link if one is available. I prefer to listen to a sermon myself before adding it to this collection, so recommendations may not necessarily be included.

My desire is to keep this page a careful and useful resource for those seeking to understand the teaching of 1 Corinthians 11:2–16.
